Its not until you decide to get married that you ever think about hiring a marquee.  Previously you may have thought of them as just a big tent that people use for huge parties.  If you are considering one for your reception, you quickly discover that there’s much more to a marquee than you perhaps first thought.  So if you’re not sure how to go about it, follow these simple tips.

As with anything that you’re sourcing for your wedding, word of mouth, the internet and wedding magazines are a great place to start hunting for marquee companies.  When you begin looking, it is a good idea to contact marquee companies located as close to your venue as possible, this way you’ll cut down on transport costs plus the company is close by should there be any problems.  You could also ask your venue for their recommended supplier.  Some venues will stipulate that you use one of their preferred suppliers only.

When contacting the marquee company, ask for detailed quotes.  Getting a figure for the marquee only is not a good indication of the final bill.  You will need to know the total figure including all-important basics such as flooring, lighting, tables and chairs.  Once you have a basic quote, you can add extras if necessary, such as a dance floor, bar, chandeliers, an entrance porch, a catering area if necessary (this may include the hire of ovens etc) ad a top table.  Be careful though, as some companies will add all of these extras on to your initial quote, so you may want them to remove any expensive extras that you don’t actually need.
