Bridal Lingerie - The Right Bra for Your Outfit

Wearing the wrong size bra isn’t just uncomfortable - it looks awful.  You need to find something that feels comfortable, compliments the dress you are wearing, and looks great at the end of your special day.  Here’s how tofind the perfect wedding bra.

Always get your bra fitted

The style of bra you choose will depend on the cut of your dress. As soon as you’ve decided on your dress, buy the bra you’re going to wear in time for your first fitting, so that your dress can be measured around your underwear.

The right size bra will give you support, a flattering shape and ensure that your dress fits properly. But many women make the mistake of buying bras that are too big around the rib cage or too small in the cup, which can cause your breasts to spill over the cup and ruin your look in the process. Bras can also differ in fit and size according to the brand you buy. So it’s not safe to assume the size you are in one brand will hold true for another.

Bra fittings are free and available in the lingerie department of most department stores. Take your time during your fitting, until you’re satisfied that your fitter has found you a bra that feels comfortable.

What you wear underneath your dress plays a vital role in making you feel and look your best.  Once you’ve tried on a bra, don’t just stand still in it. Walk around, raise your arms and make sure it is something you will feel comfortable wearing all day.

What style should I go for?

There’s a vast array of styles available now, from minimiser to push up. Your bra provides the foundation so for your dress, so you need to consider which bra is appropriate for what you’re wearing. If you’ve chosen a strapless dress, you’ll need a strapless bra or basque: the latter is great for creating a smooth line under dresses and because they’re boned, so you can wear them without straps and still feel supported.

Go for a smooth bra if you intend to wear it underneath a fitted or sheer top. Flesh tones are best for not showing through white or sheer tops. And to ensure your bra is invisible under white or pale-coloured tops, a nude colour is much better than a white one for not showing through lighter tops.
